This is the article about the men's basketball team from Villanova University. The team has competed since the 1920–21 season. Nicknamed the "Wildcats", Villanova is a member of the Big East Conference and the Philadelphia Big Five. The Villanova Wildcats have appeared in the NCAA Tournament 30 times, the 8th highest total in NCAA history. They made the Final Four in 1939, 1971, 1985 and 2009, and were National Champions in 1985. Villanova has appeared in the NIT 17 times, winning in 1994, and won the Big East Tournament in 1995. Villanova entered the 2007-2008 season with an all-time winning percentage of .637, placing the Wildcats 20th among all NCAA Division I basketball programs

In the 2009-10 season, Wright brought in a recruiting class in the top five of the national rankings. Another big-time point guard joins Jay Wright's Villanova program, with a pair of athletic forwards who can score, block shots and rebound, along with a tenacious scorer on the wing. This stellar class keeps the Wildcats on top in the Big East. Maalik Wayns (Philadelphia/Roman Catholic) is a tough Philly point guard with the ability to set up teammates, create for others or score when needed. He is one of the elite point guards in the country. Forward Isaiah Armwood (Rockville, Md./Montrose Christian School) is an extremely versatile player on both ends of the floor. He will cause matchup problems for opponents with his athleticism and scoring ability. Six-foot-9-inch big man Mouphtaou Yarou (Rockville, Md./Montrose Christian School) has a strong body with athletic ability to score inside the paint; he likes to dribble when there's space inside to get to the rim. He gets on the glass tenaciously and blocks shots to be a factor defensively. His physical presence in the tough Big East Conference will be an asset. Finally, Dominic Cheek (Jersey City, NJ / St. Anthony's), arguably the most heavily touted recruit will bring another explosive scorer to Wright's squad. Cheek is able to score off the dribble, from beyond the arc and drive inside and should call for many comparisons to former Wildcat Kerry Kittles in his coming years on the Mainline.  Furthermore, Coach Wright will also be welcoming Taylor King to the rotation, the former McDonald's All-American and Duke transfer will be suiting up for the Wildcats in '09-'10 after redshirting the '08-'09 season. King will bring added size and depth to an already deadly three point shooting Villanova squad. The Wildcats enjoyed another successful regular season, finishing with a record of 24-7, losing in the first round of the Big East Tournament to Marquette. They would be a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and received a great scare by 15th seeded Robert Morris University before escaping in overtime. However, the Wildcats would be knocked out in the 2nd round by the 10th seeded St. Mary's Gaels
